Laureates of A. von Humboldt Honorary Scholarship

"The Foundation for Polish Sciences has selected the beneficiaries of the Alexander von Humboldt Polish Honorary Research Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to outstanding active German scholars with the highest qualifications and a significant contribution to global research, as recognition for their previous research achievements and in order to permit them to conduct scientific research at a selected institution in Poland. In 2018, in the 22nd round of the competition, Polish Honorary Research Scholarships went to:

• prof. Adrian  Gericke from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany) invited for six-month fellowship at the Department of Pathophysiology of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences to realise a project entitled Protective Role of Sulodexide in Diabetes-Induced Vascular Damage of Retinal Blood Vessels together with prof. Andrzej Bręborowicz.

• dr. med. vet. Monika Nowak-Imialek from Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, (Germany), invited for six-month stay at the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of Polish Academy of Sciences to realise a project entitled Novel bovine embryonic stem cell (bESC) lines and their ability to contribute to chimeric embryos together with prof. Izabela Wocławek-Potocka.

• prof. Florian Steger from Ulm University (Germany) invited for six-month stay at the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University of Łódź  to realise a project entitled The city of Ulm ? a site of memory for forced laborers of Telefunken from Łódź together with prof. Maciej Kokoszko.

Stipends are awarded on the basis of the 1995 agreement between the FNP and the Humboldt Foundation. As a result of this contract, the Foundation for Polish Science joined similar organisations from countries with analogous partnership agreements on mutual awarding of these distinctions to the most outstanding scholars. The invitation enables beneficiaries to conduct their research projects in accordance with their own choice in cooperation with colleagues from the host country. The name of the stipend takes the name of the patron to invoke the best traditions of cooperation of Polish and German scientists. Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), a German naturalist, traveller and geographer, worked together with many Poles and was an honorary member of the Society of Friends of Sciences in Warsaw and the first promoter of Adam Mickiewicz?s poetry in Germany. Scholarship beneficiaries will receive each 4000 euro per month.
